In May of 1954, Roger Bannister, a British middle-distance runner, achieved a monumental feat by becoming the first person in history to run a mile (1.6 kilometers) in under four minutes. Bannister's time of 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds at the Iffley Road track in Oxford, England, shattered the long-standing belief that a sub-four-minute mile was impossible to achieve. His achievement not only showcased human potential and the power of determination but also inspired countless athletes around the world to push their limits and strive for greatness.

Thousands of sub-4-minute miles have been recorded since Roger Bannister first achieved this milestone in 1954. It's become a benchmark for elite middle-distance runners, and many athletes have accomplished this feat in both track and road races, but it's safe to say that the sub-4-minute mile still remains a significant achievement in the world of athletics.

It had never been done before...it just took one person on one day with one monumental effort to change history.
